Coachella, Bonnaroo, and Lollapalooza might be the reigning champs when it comes to music festivals in the US, but their price tags are basically a small fortune. As a poor college student who is already in enough debt as it is, it’s just not worth dishing out that kind of money. As an alternative, here are 5 music festivals across the country whose admission price does not require the selling of an organ.
1. Sunfest – West Palm Beach, Florida May 3-7
Located on the waterfront in sunny West Palm Beach, Florida, Sunfest brings together multiple artists in a 5 day celebration of music. More than 175,000 visitors attend Sunfest, making it the largest music festival in Florida. Past headliners include artists like Walk the Moon, Lukas Graham, Alabama Shakes, Meghan Trainor, Bastille, Steve Aoki, and many more. There’s pretty much something for everyone and at tickets starting at $35, it’s a must on any music lover’s to do list.
2. Summerfest – Milwaukee, WI June 28-July 2 & July 4-July 9
For 11 days, more than 800 acts play on the shores of Lake Michigan at Henry Maier Festival Park. With over 45 food and beverage vendors, cold beer, interactive exhibits, and four marketplaces, there’s always something to do and see. 2016 headliners included Paul McCartney, Luke Bryan, Weezer, Panic! at the Disco, Selena Gomez, All Time Low, Pitbull, Def Leppard, Martin Garrix, Rise Against, REO Speedwagon, and many more top performers. Even more impressive than their lineup is their ticket prices which start at $20 for one day general admission.
3. Beale Street Music Festival – Memphis, TN May 5-7
2017 will be the Beale Street Music Festival’s 41st year. The festival is a three-day event in the heart of Memphis, TN and is a mix of rock, blues, soul, and modern talent. Some of its most well known headliners have been The Black Keys, The Killers, Beck, Bob Dylan, Paramore, Katy Perry, Fleetwood Mac, Ed Sheeran, and so many more. 3 day tickets are on sale now for $95 and single day general admission tickets will be on sale this month right after the release of the 2017 lineup.
4. Bunbury Music Festival – Cincinnati, OH June 2-4
Bunbury Music Festival is a three-day multi-stage festival in downtown Cincinnati. 2017 will feature a brand new second main stage in addition to 5 smaller stages. 5. Basilica Block Party – Minneapolis, MN July 8 & 9
The music festival started as a fundraiser that drew in over 15,000 people and raised over $100,000 to restore The Basilica of Saint Mary. Today, more than 25,000 people attend the festival and proceeds continue to maintain the basilica. The 2016 lineup included Ron Pope, X Ambassadors, Matt Nathanson, American Authors, Phillip Phillips, Death Cab for Cutie, The Fray, Coldwar Kids and more. Tickets go on sale April 16th at 10 and start at $50.
